Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer, and someone is diagnosed every 15 minutes. Yet if identified early, more than 90% of cases can be treated successfully. This is why it is important to recognise the signs and symptoms of the disease and act on them as soon as possible.
While 95% of bowel cancer cases occur in people over 50, more than 2,500 people under the age of 50 in the UK are diagnosed with the disease every year - a 45% rise since 2004.
For the past five years, Beating Bowel Cancer has hosted DecemBeard to encourage men to grow, shave or decorate their beards in order to raise awareness of the symptoms of Bowel Cancer and encourage people to donate vital funds to the charity.
Kirsty Ettrick, CEO and Founder of London Medical Concierge, comments; “Here at LMC, we understand the importance of catching bowel cancer early and identifying key symptoms. It is essential that people are getting these symptoms checked out as soon as they begin to notice them. If diagnosed early enough, 9 in 10 bowel cancer patients can be cured.”
